The Evolution of Sequential Shifting Realism

Most sequential shifters rely solely on spring tension. The BDH S1 goes further, using a proprietary weighted inertia system to recreate the physics of real gearbox selector engagement, delivering a mechanical authenticity that's never existed in sim racing hardware before.

Dynamic Inertia Mechanism™: A First in Sim Racing

Unlike conventional sequential shifters that rely purely on spring tension, the S1's proprietary weighted cylindrical system translates lever motion into realistic momentum transfer. As you shift, the internal assembly of ball bearings, compression springs, and dampers produces a momentary inertial pulse, replicating the energy kick of an actual racing transmission selector. It's not imitation. It's mechanical authenticity, refined by BDH.

Dual-Stage Engagement: The Feel of a Real Dog-Box

The S1's progressive mechanical setup replicates the resistance, preload, and engagement of a true sequential dog-box gearbox. Each pull or push delivers a purposeful, physical response, starting with initial resistance, followed by a crisp engagement point, and finishing with a natural return motion. This dual-stage system ensures every shift feels deliberate, confident, and indistinguishable from genuine race-car mechanics.

Built for Lifelong Performance

Machined entirely from aerospace-grade billet aluminium and finished in hard black anodising, the S1 is engineered for durability under heavy use. The internal weighted system utilizes ball bearings, compression springs, and internal dampers to ensure smooth, consistent operation. This isn't a plastic housing with basic springs; it's a professional-grade mechanical shifter delivering durable engineering designed for lifelong performance.

Tunable Shift Feel: Calibrated to You

No two drivers shift the same way. The S1's integrated tension thumb wheel lets you dial mechanical resistance from light, rapid engagement to heavy, deliberate precision, without tools, without disassembly, and without leaving your cockpit. Match the feel to the car, the circuit, or your personal preference. Whether you need the nimble flick of a single-seater or the weighted authority of a GT transmission, the S1 adapts to you.

BDH Active & S1 Shifter FAQs

  • What is the BDH Active Shifter?
The BDH Active is our latest H-pattern shifter, featuring advanced electronically controlled resistance for a highly realistic shifting feel. It is designed purely for H-pattern operation and is not dual-mode.
  • Will the Active shifter support Sequential mode, or can I upgrade my existing shifter to Active?
No. The Active shifter is H-pattern only and there is no upgrade path from existing BDH models. The Active uses a completely new internal mechanism and control system, and each unit is individually built, tuned, and programmed during production.
  • What advanced feedback features does the Active include (clutch-lock, gear-grind, torque feedback)?
The Active shifter includes clutch lock-out, gear grind, and torque feedback functionality. Using live telemetry from SimHub, it dynamically adjusts resistance and simulates drivetrain feedback, providing the most immersive and realistic manual shifting experience available in sim racing.
  • What software or telemetry integration is required, is the unit plug-and-play?
The Active integrates directly with SimHub, which is required for full functionality. Once connected, it operates as a plug-and-play device with automatic configuration for supported games.
  • How does the feel of the Active compare to earlier BDH shifters (H1, H2SQ)?
Let's not forget, the Active is first and foremost a mechanical shifter. It utilizes active motors to enhance feel, but the fundamental shift mechanism remains mechanical, just like our other shifters. The active system adds engine and gearbox feedback to enhance the experience, rather than replacing the mechanical engagement that BDH shifters are known for.
  • What's the difference between the S1 and the Sequential mode in the H2SQ?
    • S1 Sequential: Designed as a Rally-focused shifter with a longer shaft and a high-impact, aggressive feel.
    • H2SQ Sequential: Designed as a Sprint-style sequential, with a shorter shaft and smoother engagement.
Both use BDH's precision mechanical architecture and feature side mounting to maximize space on your rig.
  • What's the difference between the H1, H2SQ, and Active in H-pattern feel?
    • H1: Classic mechanical H-pattern with solid detents.
    • H2SQ: Dual-mode H-pattern and sequential with smoother, refined feel.
    • Active: Uses new active resistance technology to simulate real gearbox feedback for the most lifelike H-pattern experience.
  • How do I maximize space on my rig?
All BDH products are designed with flexibility in mind. Every shifter can be side- and reverse-mounted directly onto aluminium profile rigs, ensuring you can make the most of your available space without needing third-party brackets or adapters.
  • What are the mounting options and compatibility with existing rigs (rails/plates)?
All BDH shifters feature the ability to top mount, side mount, or reverse mount, utilizing our integrated clamp system designed specifically for aluminium profile rigs. This provides maximum flexibility and stability without the need for additional brackets.
  • Are the mounting plates the same across BDH products?
Yes. All BDH shifters use the same mounting plate design. Each can be side-, top-, or reverse-mounted to suit your rig layout.
  • Can I change the position of 7th/Reverse on my H2SQ without rotating the shifter?
No, the 7th/Reverse gate position can only be changed by rotating the unit 180°. Although you can configure all settings as you wish within the game.
  • What is the price, deposit, and delivery timeline for the Active?
The BDH Active is priced at £1,850 plus taxes. Customers who register during the pre-sale period become first in the build queue. Estimated delivery is March 2026 and depends on production scheduling at the time of order.
  • What warranty and service support is included with the Active?
The Active shifter includes a 2-year warranty. After that period, we continue to offer repair support under our Return for Repair policy, ensuring VAT or import tax is not paid twice for international customers.
  • What is the warranty for the S1 and H2SQ?
Our standard mechanical shifters, including the S1 and H2SQ, come with lifetime warranty coverage against manufacturing defects.
  • I live outside the UK. How do taxes and returns work for repairs?
When a unit is returned for repair, we handle it under Return for Repair customs classification, meaning VAT or import tax is not paid twice. Your local courier or customs service may charge a small handling fee. You must specify this is a return for repair when posting your unit back to us; failure to do so may result in customs, tax, or duty charges, and these costs will be passed back to the customer.
